Baked Beans - Bush’s Kicked Up!

 

Baked beans are a staple at every picnic or summertime gathering. This recipe is hearty and bursting with flavor, a little sweet and a touch of heat. It can be easily done in the oven or Big Green Egg like we did here! This will definitely be a crowd pleaser at your next get together!

 

·        10 Slices of Bacon

·        8oz. of Cubed Ham

·        1 Diced Sweet Onion

·        1 Diced Green Pepper

·        2 Tsp of Killer Hogs Hot BBQ Rub

·        1/2 Cup Blues Hog Original BBQ Sauce

·        1/4 Cup of Light Brown Sugar

·        1/4 Cup of Brown Sugar Honey Habanero Heath Riles

·        1/4 Cup of Ketchup

·        72 oz. Bush’s Original Baked Beans

 

We fired up our egg using the plate setter to 325 degrees. In a large skillet we sautéed 6 slices (Diced) of the bacon and all of the ham until browned. We then added the onion and pepper, seasoning with the KH Hot BBQ Rub. Cook until the onions and peppers are tender, about 5 minutes. We then added the BBQ Sauce, Brown Sugar, Ketchup and the Heath Riles Glaze. We simmered this for about 5 minutes until all ingredients were fully incorporated. We added our beans undrained into our Dutch Oven and then added our mixture. Stir until well combined. Top with a couple more shakes of the KH Hot BBQ Rub and the remaining 4 slices of bacon. Cooked covered for one hour. Check your beans to be sure there is no sticking, giving it just a slight stir. Remove lid and cook for an additional 30 minutes. Remove from oven/smoker and let cool for 15 minutes.
